Passage zum Korallengrund - Passage to the coral deep

from Von Belkinrode nach Bellingroth - an Audio Geography by giant skeletons

about

Die Schauhöhle „Aggertalhöhle“ sowie das neu entdeckte größere „Windloch“ in Ründeroth.

There are two caves located in Ründeroth: Aggertalhöhle and the recently discovered much larger “Windloch”. The caves are located in the reef limestone of the Upper Middle Devonian. In this period (419 to 358 million years ago) large parts of today's Central Europe were covered by a tropical shallow sea. Species-rich reef communities spread on the seafloor. The main representatives of these reef communities are rugose and tabulate corals, whose fossils can be admired in many places in the caves.
